Real Ales & Craft Lager
At The Bell we are proud to serve cask ales, also known as real ales. Cask ale or cask-conditioned beer is unfiltered and unpasteurised beer which is conditioned and served from a cask without adding nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure. There is an art to the production and storage of these ales, we like to support microbreweries and therefore regularly offer guest ales. What we have on draught changes regularly.
Like wine, there is a story behind craft lagers giving them integrity and authenticity. They orgininated in America and came about after Prohibition, which was the national ban on the sale, production, and transportation of alcohol, in place from 1919 to 1933. Prohibition was responsible for the dimise of many breweries, however, following this period large corporations quickly took over the brewing industry and created lager-like beers for a mass market. Many beer connoisseurs were unhappy with the product and in turn started brewing their own drinks. This was the start of the microbrewery industry which has since taken off in the UK as well. At The Bell Inn we supply craft lager, so if you fancy something a bit different we highly recommend it.
